The journey to the championship of Talk Green Future Season 3 winners

Talk Green Future Season 3 has concluded its remarkable journey, crowning champions with a series of practical and high-potential ideas aimed at environmental protection.

The Talk Green Future Competition Season 3 – an annual intellectual playground for high school students nationwide – officially concluded on the evening of February 1, 2026, in Ha Noi. The championship titles were awarded to team So Dua (Vietnamese division) from Luong Van Chanh High School for the Gifted (Dak Lak) and team Cropspiracy (English division) from Nguyen Sieu High School (Hanoi).

The two outstanding champion teams of Talk Green Future Season 3 are So Dua (Vietnamese division) and Cropspiracy (English division).

From waste to an innovative green solution

Luong Van Chanh High School for the Gifted has participated in all three seasons of the competition and consistently has had students reach the Final Round. However, this marks the first time the school has had a team win the championship title. This season, team So Dua represented the school with their project titled “Oil-absorbing mat made from hair and coconut fiber.”

Tra Thi Hau Giang, a member of team So Dua, shared that the project originated from a simple everyday observation. “We’re girls who pay close attention to our hair. Every time we brush or wash it, we notice a lot of hair falling out. We started wondering that at large salons, the amount of hair waste each day must be huge, yet it’s mostly burned or buried, which is both wasteful and harmful to the environment,” Giang explained. From there, the idea of transforming waste into an oil-absorbing material emerged.

The team name “So Dua” also carries symbolic meaning. Hau Giang elaborated: “It’s inspired by the Vietnamese folktale So Dua – even though the character appears imperfect, once accepted by others, he reveals many admirable qualities. Hair and coconut fiber are similar: often considered waste, but when used in the right way, they can absorb oil and help clean rivers and lakes.”

However, the project’s development was not easy. According to Hau Giang, the biggest challenge was that the mat tended to break apart when submerged in water. “We spent a long time searching for a solution, and at one point, we thought it might not be fixable. In the end, we experimented with bead stitching and added stabilizing materials to make the mat more durable.”

In addition, the team was concerned about user perception, given that the product is made from waste materials. As such, their goal also includes communicating that this is a truly green solution, not a low-quality product. Through the competition and feedback from other teams, as well as expert mentors, Hau Giang said she learned the importance of being careful and patient. According to her, every step in material processing must be meticulous, as an environmentally friendly product should not create further harm to people.

Both team members are currently in Grade 12. Hau Giang hopes to pursue her studies at VinUniversity to further develop her strengths, while Cam Giang aims to study journalism or international relations at the VNUHCM-USSH. Following Talk Green Future, both members hope their project can be disseminated without limits – moving beyond an idea to become a scalable, real-world solution.

A breakthrough from “newbies”

Cao Khanh Nguyen and Ho Duc Minh – two Grade 11 students from Nguyen Sieu High School, Ha Noi, and members of team Cropspiracy – delivered a surprising victory by winning the English division under the British Parliamentary (BP) format, which was introduced to the competition for the first time.

With the Final Round motion focusing on the importance of advancing green mobility, the team distinguished themselves through clear, sharp, and compelling arguments, ultimately convincing the judging panel to secure the championship title.

Their greatest challenge was a lack of experience and formal debate skills. Khanh Nguyen shared that in Season 2, he had only reached the Face-off Round in the Vietnamese division. “This year, even though we were new to the BP format, Minh and I practiced extensively. That’s what helped me become more confident,” she said.

The BP format requires participants to think from multiple perspectives, as they must listen to and evaluate four teams simultaneously, demanding strong knowledge and comparative reasoning skills. According to Duc Minh, learning from more experienced debaters, particularly in structuring arguments, rebutting effectively, and speaking slowly, clearly, and coherently, played a key role in helping the team achieve the top prize in the English division.

In terms of spreading the green message, Khanh Nguyen plans to share knowledge with his classmates to raise environmental awareness. The Grade 11 student also noted that his greatest takeaway from the competition was gaining confidence in himself and the value of teamwork. “I used to doubt myself because of my lack of experience, but when two people support each other, ideas become much stronger,” she said.

The journeys of So Dua and Cropspiracy reflect perseverance, teamwork, and a strong commitment to environmental protection, rooted in simple, everyday observations. Following Talk Green Future Season 3, both teams expressed their desire to pursue new opportunities to inspire and encourage young people to take initiative, speak up, and actively engage in environmental solutions toward a more sustainable future.
