As Vietnam accelerates the development of its carbon market to fulfill its Net Zero emissions commitment by 2050, businesses are facing both regulatory pressure and new opportunities to leverage the voluntary market for green transformation.

As the final forum in the “Talk GreenBiz – The Compass for Green Growth” series, jointly organized by the For a Green Future Foundation, an initiative of Vingroup, and Dan Tri Newspaper, the upcoming online discussion titled “Open Forum – Bridging Policy and Practice” will provide the latest updates on regulatory frameworks and analyze the current state of the voluntary carbon market.

The program will also directly connect businesses with experts, helping them identify barriers, seize opportunities, and develop proactive, sustainable strategies for participating in the carbon market.

Leading Experts Bring Policy and Practice into Focus

The forum will feature two leading experts in the field: Dr. Nguyen Sy Linh and Dr. Nguyen Phuong Nam.

Dr. Nguyễn Sỹ Linh currently serves as Head of Climate Change at the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Agriculture and Environment under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Vietnam. Holding a PhD in Global, Urban and Social Studies from RMIT University (Australia), he brings 25 years of experience in environmental fields and over 15 years in climate policy analysis.

Dr. Linh regularly engages with international organizations, research institutes, industry associations, and businesses on climate action planning, carbon market development, green transition trends, greenhouse gas reduction, and circular economy models. At the forum, he will present on “Developing Vietnam’s Carbon Market: A Policy Perspective,” highlighting key mechanisms and regulatory frameworks needed to ensure effective market operation and achieve Net Zero 2050 goals.

Complementing the policy perspective is Dr. Nguyễn Phương Nam, Founder and CEO of KLINOVA, a leading green transition consultancy supporting both domestic and international corporations operating in Vietnam.

Dr. Nam holds a PhD in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Bonn (Germany) and a Bachelor of Law from Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Since 2016, he has been a member of the editorial board of the Vietnam Environment Journal; since 2017, an international reviewer for the UNFCCC; since 2023, an advisor to the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency; and from 2024, a sustainability standards advisor to the ASEAN Capital Markets Forum.

With over 20 years of experience collaborating with international development partners such as the United Nations, ADB, GIZ, World Bank, and JICA, as well as Vietnamese ministries, Dr. Nam will provide an in-depth analysis of the voluntary carbon market, identifying key barriers and assessing the readiness of Vietnamese businesses to participate.

From Insight to Action: A Roadmap for Businesses

Beyond individual presentations, the forum will feature an interactive Q&A session between experts and participants, as well as a closing segment summarizing the entire carbon market discussion series and offering actionable recommendations for businesses.

The event comes at a critical time, as Vietnam finalizes its carbon market regulatory framework in line with commitments made at COP26. Meanwhile, global demand for carbon credits continues to surge, and international partners are tightening green requirements across supply chains.
